Debi's Story
On the 28th of April last year (2011) I was
diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine
mammogram. It was an invasive tumor which had spread
to the tissues but did not detect whether or not it
had spread to my lymph nodes. On June the
6th I underwent surgery to have the cancerous mass
removed at which time they performed what is
referred to as a sentinel node dissection along with
the lumpectomy. The surgery was successful but the
three nodes were deemed as cancerous. After a panel
discussion amongst the medical professionals,
their recommendation was for me to have
my lymph nodes removed in my right arm (my painting
arm), followed by chemotherapy, radiation and
hormone therapy. After a discussion with the
oncologist and the radiation technologist I
was forewarned of all the possible side affects
which is far too long a list for me to mention in
this letter. They informed me the cancer could
spread throughout my whole body through
my lymphatic system and in a year's time it could be
too late. After careful consideration and many
prayers I received a word in my dreams for an entire
night. This had only happened to me once before in
my life when I was given the word
diverticulitis. I thought it was a word for someone
else but as it turned out , I did end up with it and
pre cancerous polyps, which I had removed over the
course of three years. The new word I was given
was glutathione, over and over again all through my
dream. I sent a text to my friend who is a scientist
and one of Canada's foremost authorities on water
and mercury, Dr. David Lean. I asked him what
glutathione was to which he replied "it is one of
your body's most powerful healing agents!" he went
on to say "it is also the agent that gets rid of
mercury out of your body!" Wow ...that's big, I
thought. He suggested I get in contact with a clinic
in Ottawa that he had worked closely with as he felt
they could help me with a metal test and the removal
of toxic metals which could have played a role in my
cancer. He also suggested I get my amalgam fillings
removed as they are poisoning the body with mercury.
There it was, the moment I made a decision to refuse
treatment that could cause my body more harm. It
didn't make sense to me to put poisons in an
already unhealthy body. Against many people, family
and friends advise to undergo conventional
treatment, I set out to rebuild the health of my
body and my already compromised immune system as
well as all the emotional and spiritual aspects.
From the physical perspective, I found out that my
mercury, lead, aluminum and cadmium levels were
high. I learned that my vitamin D (key to
fighting cancer) was not being absorbed because of
gluten (huge subject) in my diet and that cadmium
mimics estrogen and my particular cancer was
estrogen fed. I also found out from Dr. David Lean
that cadmium turns our DNA on 100% when it should
normally be at 25% so my paints had been toxic for
me due to my ignorance about putting my brushes in
my mouth. I will share all I have learned, including
what I did wrong during my healthy alternative
treatments, in my new book about my life, entitled
The Healing Of The Journey, subtitled An
Artist's Journey Through Cancer. I hope to have the
book published by The Buckhorn Fine Arts Festival in
August of this year (2012).
The
help which I am receiving at The Seekers Centre of
Integrative Medicine in Ottawa has been greatly
improving my health and prolonged my life but
unfortunately it is not covered by Ohip. In order to
continue my treatments to complete the protocol for
cancer, I need to sell my personal collection of my
paintings. I have decided to post one per month
which will be made available. Each painting will be
offered by silent auction through my website or by
email or phone. All proceeds from the auction
of these works of art will be entirely used to
further my treatments. The first one I am
offering is the painting entitled Grace which will
be on the cover of my new book. My journey
through cancer has taught me so many things which
have changed my life. I made a prayer at the
beginning of this journey asking God to bless all of
those people who made it easier, to bless all of
those who made it harder and to help the world to
find a safe and healthy cure for cancer. My
friends say I was courageous to go this way but I
say it only took faith, knowing it was all in God's
hands and that is where my strength has come from.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all
of those who have made my burden lighter. You
confirmed my belief that the world's ways have not
won over compassion. You all have given me hope. For
those who gave of their time or in other ways, my
heart is filled with gratitude.
In Friendship,

Fitzgerald is presently
writing her new book which will be available in summer of 2012 this year. It is entitled The Healing Of The Journey and subtitled An Artist's Journey Through Cancer.
Her first book entitled The Healing Journey was
subtitled: Moving Through The Grieving Process To
The Evolution Of Self Love.
Her
new book describes her life form the conception of
The Healing Journey to the present. It entails the
trials and tribulations she experienced as her own
healing journey unfolded. It gives you a glimpse
into this artist's life while including many
references to her paintings and where her
inspirations came from, both painful and triumphant. It also includes her most recent and present journey through cancer.
